Two types of appraisals are most often used: Benchmark, and Evaluation.
A Benchmark Appraisal is used to confer a Maturity Level or Capability Levels. An Evaluation Appraisal is a measurement device used to discover progress made toward complying with the intent of a model viewpoint.
